Endovascular Embolization of a Spinal Arteriovenous Fistula
نویسنده
چکیده
Spinal arteriovenous fistulas are rare formations with severe clinical symptoms and consequences, if left untreated. Over the past few decades, considerable progress has been made for the clarifying and correct interpretation of these lesions by conducting selective angiographies. Good knowledge of anatomical characteristics and pathophysiology of spinal arteriovenous fistulas has led to the development and implementation of endovascular treatment of this pathology. The development and evolution of diagnostic procedures, interventional treatment and surgery have contributed to the more effective treatment of spinal arteriovenous fistulas. We present a clinical case from our experience in endovascular treatment of spinal arteriovenous malformations.

Novalis Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Spinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistula
The spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) is rare, presenting with progressive, insidious symptoms, and inducing spinal cord ischemia and myelopathy, resulting in severe neurological deficits. If physicians have accurate and enough information about vascular anatomy and hemodynamics, they achieve the good results though the surgery or endovascular embolization. However, when selective spin...
متن کاملThe Retrocorporeal Artery: An Alternative Route for Endovascular Treatment of Spinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistula
Endovascular treatment has emerged as the primary treatment option for the management of spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF). The goal of endovascular embolization is to achieve embolic penetration into the nidus and proximal segment of the draining vein. Though less invasive, the successful obliteration of fistula is achieved in 70 to 90% of the patients and recurrence of fistula is obs...
متن کاملEndovascular management of spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas. A review.
OBJECT Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) are the most common spinal vascular malformations and can be a significant cause of myelopathy, yet remain inefficiently diagnosed lesions. Over the last several decades, the treatment of spinal DAVFs has improved tremendously due to improvements in neuroimaging, microsurgical, and endovascular techniques. The aim of this paper was to review th...
متن کاملCauda Equina Syndrome Caused by Spinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistula
Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) is rare but still the most commonly encountered vascular malformation of the spinal cord. A 31-year-old male developed gait disturbance due to weakness of his lower extremities, voiding difficulty and sexual dysfunction with a progressive course since 3 months. He showed areflexia in both knees and ankles. Electromyographic findings were suggestive of ...
متن کاملSpinal Dural Arteriovenous Fistula and Cecal Arteriovenous Malformation in a Boy
Concurrent spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (AVF) and cecal arteriovenous malformation (AVM) are very rare. A 6-year old boy presented with lower limb paresis after trauma. On imaging work-up spinal dural AVF was found. It was managed with endovascular glue embolization. After two years, the boy presented with severe anemia and occult gastrointestinal tract (GIT) bleed. Cecal AVM was diagnose...
